One of the most common reasons that applicants to HM Prison Services do not make the grade is generally due to failing the fitness test.
You do not have to be super fit, however you do need to have a good basic level of fitness.

The test is broken down into 5 elements
GRIP STRENGTH TEST
MULTI STAGE FITNESS TEST (bleep test)
Entails running back and forth to the timing of bleeps.
DYNAMIC STRENGTH TEST
Tests your overall ability to push and pull
SPEED AGILITY RUN TEST
Tests your ablity to run and change direction
2 straight line shuttle sprints separated by cones
SHIELD TEST
Hold a 6kg shield in front of yourself for 1 minute, one foot in front of the other
